Prerequisites

Problem

Add ability to user to specify patterns that shall be ignored.
For example: (\d|\a)+ will ignore any alphanumeric changes. Useful when diffing disassembly.
See vim-diff-enhanced.

At a first glance this is out of scope (diffs.nvim only paints over diffs, it does not alter them) but make sure to read to the end of this comment.

I tried to consider a lot of possibilities here but diffs.nvim is just not the right tool :/

Diffs.nvim attaches on top of pre-existing views and diffs, prettifying them - it doesn't alter or generate the diffs themselves.

Here's the key point: I'm supposing tht you're using vimdiff/&diff - feel free to correct me. You can keep using vim-diff-enhanced (or set &diffexpr yourself) and diffs.nvim's styling composes on top of it, automatically, with no configuration. I don't think they should conflict. If you've noticed an actual LACK of highlighting, please follow up with a detailed description.
