Problem

spec/trash_spec.lua (added by canola, not present in upstream stevearc/oil.nvim) occasionally fails with timing-dependent errors:

  • @ 65 — "freedesktop deleting a file from trash deletes it permanently" — Could not find file a.txt
  • @ 137 — "freedesktop can have multiple files with the same name in trash" — wait_for_autocmd timed out

These are not consistently reproducible — 3 consecutive runs on clean main all pass (118/0/0). The failures were observed once during a CI run, likely under system load.

Notes

  • Upstream has no trash_spec.lua — these are canola-only tests
  • The tests depend on actual OS trash infrastructure (XDG_DATA_HOME) and async operations with timeouts via test_util.wait_for_autocmd
  • May need longer timeouts or retry logic in the test helpers
